MANUFACTURER OVERVIEW
Originally the airplane manufacturer, Saab was founded in 1937 in Sweden. Saab Automobile AB, better known as Saab, is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors. It is the exclusive automobile royal warrant holder as appointed by H.M., the King of Sweden. Since its inception, Saab has become known for turbo charging, "quirkiness", safety and green technology. Saab competes directly with companies like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
Historically Saab has produced 18 vehicles. General Motors bought 50% of Saab in 1990 and have since then purchased the remaining 50%.
