MANUFACTURER OVERVIEW
Daihatsu was formed in 1951 as the successor organisation to Hatsudoki. The company began to export cars to Europe in the 1960’s, although did not enjoy large success until the 1980’s.
In 1967 Daihatsu signed an agreement with Toyota Motor Corporation and by 1999 Toyota had the controlling share in Daihatsu.
Daihatsu is well known for its smaller models and off road vehicles, more so in the East. Whereas in the West it is known for supplying engines to alternative automotive companies.
