CITROEN C4 GRAND PICASSO ESTATE 2007-2010 Review

Good Points

  • Pioneering design
  • Spacious and high-quality interiors
  • Powerful, reliable engines
  • Seats 7 people

Bad Points

  • Issues concerning the interiors
  • The two seats at the rear can only fit children

Engines

The diesels make more sense for a car of this size with both performing admirably coming with loads of pulling power and their low fuel consumption. The diesels come in the form of a 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre engines packing 108 and 138bhp respectively. There is also the option of two petrol engines the 1.8-litre, 125bhp and 2.0-litre, 143bhp. There is the option of either the standard manual gearbox or Citroens semi automatic EGS gearbox, which did have a few problems when first released but have since all been corrected.

Performance & Economy

The engines available in the Grand Picasso are the same as the standard Picasso. We would opt for the diesel options, either 1.6-litre (46mpg) or the 2.0-litre (49mpg). Whilst the petrol engines will satisfy most people the diesel options are better both on economy and wear.

Introduction

The C4 Grand Picasso Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) is a family car that offers practicality with a new and stylish design. It has enough space to comfortably fit 7 passengers with the option of being able to slide the back seats forwards and backwards to either increase the luggage space or legroom for the back seat passengers. The C4 Grand Picasso is similar to its smaller brother, the C4 Picasso with the only differences between the two being that the Grand is bigger, the rear end is styled differently and the smaller Picasso only seats five. The back row of seats is only really big enough for children to sit in comfortably. These seats can be quickly and easily folded up or down while there is still room for some luggage with them up.

Exterior & Interior

The Grand Picasso's sleek body design has attracted many customers. The new design incorporates a new windscreen that extends further back than most ending just behind the driver. To stop glare distracting the driver, blinds have been added. The Citroen Grand Picasso continues to have problems with the quality of the interior. Some seem to damage easily and they certainly do not seem to be bale to cope with much wear and tear, a real disappointment for a car which is designed for a family. As with the standard Picasso, you have several trim levels to choose from. The SX trim is a good choice and is well equipped as standard and we would be tempted to pay more for the VTR+ which includes climate control, parking sensors and electric windows all round.

Drive

Again the Grand Picasso is very similar to the Picasso and does a good job at providing a smooth ride. You will not want this vehicle if you like taking corners hard as there will be some roll, however, if you want a real sports car then the Grand Picasso would probably be the wrong choice anyway. You will get good views from the cabin of the vehicle and most drivers will enjoy driving it.

Faults & Repairs

As we have already mentioned the biggest problem with the Grand Picasso is the interior. Although it looks fine and seem to be built well, we can not ignore report from numerous owners who have voiced their complaints. Watch out also for any problems in the EGS gearbox as there were some on the earlier models. Also expect higher than average servicing bills with this vehicle.
