CHEVROLET LACETTI HATCHBACK 2005-2011 Review

Good Points

  • Offers good value for money
  • Comes with a lot of equipment

Bad Points

  • Poor drive quality
  • The car has lack of image

Engines

The Lacetti only comes with the option of two engines the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines with no diesel engines being available.

Performance & Economy

The 93bhp 1.4-litre engine feels underpowered and lacks the feel of a car that you would enjoy to drive. The more powerful 109bhp 1.6-litre is the better choice as it gives that little extra power that handles better on the motorways and adds a little bit of urgency to the cat that is much needed. Fuel efficiency wise they both perform almost identically with both of them managing around the 40mpg. They are both cheap to insure with the 1.4-litre falling into group 5 and the 1.6-litre into group 7.

Introduction

Daewoo's Lacetti, also known as the Chevrolet Lacetti, is a small family hatchback car. Its main attraction is that it is affordable. However, there are probably not too many people who would have the Lacetti as their first car choice.

Exterior & Interior

The Lacetti is a small-sized family car that comes with a dash of style thanks to Italdesign who help in the designing of Daewoo's cars. Inside the driver and front passenger have plenty of room with the driver being able to setup their driving position as best suits them. There is also plenty of room in the back for three passengers to fit comfortably. The boot is large with the option of extending it by folding down the split-folding rear seats. The 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre come with their own trim levels with the 1.4-litre coming with power steering, CD player, central locking and front electric windows. The 1.6-litre also comes with air-con, alloy wheels, heated, electric mirrors and electric windows all round.

Drive

The Lacetti is comfortable, but it's not a car for enthusiastic drivers with its shoddy cornering abilities, lackluster steering, crude gearbox and the sound of the wind and engine constantly in the cabin.

Faults & Repairs

As with previous Daewoo's, the Lacetti hasn't faired well when it comes to customer satisfaction surveys. There have been no standout problems with the Lacetti so it would just be advisable that if you are looking to purchase one, make sure to check everything from the body work, to the electrics, the underside of the car to the correct functioning of the locks and windows.
