The van pricing experts CAP have issued a statement warning that the new CO2 emissions guidelines could end up causing big problems for some operators.
The introduction of the new Euro 4 rules for operators of vans partly relies on the uptake of the new diesel particulate filters in vehicles, but the organisation is warning that the technology could actually cause damage to a lot of vehicles. Users of vans in urban areas have a tendency to rely on low speed, short deliveries, and unfortunately this can actually lead to the devices becoming clogged up. "A typical example could be a city-based self-employed used van owner who travels less than ten miles to site from home and stays all day" points out John Watts from CAP.
As a result of this, the very costly nature of having to have these filters removed would mean that the price of used vans would then be very likely to fall in the future, given that the great majority of operators would then be forced to include the cost of having to replace the devices on a much more regular basis.
The warning follows the recent publication of research that was conducted by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk, which demonstrated that as many as 78% of vehicle owners across the whole of the United Kingdom would seriously consider having their used car or van retrofitted in order to lower their CO2 emissions and improve their fuel efficiency figures.
