The best selling used car of 2011 was the Vauxhall Astra, at least according to new data that has just been released by the leading car finance provider Creditplus.co.uk. The Vauxhall Astra accounted for as much as 5.39% of all the used cars that were funded last year by Creditplus, just beating the BMW 3 Series that came in at 5.27%. The third most popular used car of 2011 was the Ford Focus, which accounted for 4.98% of all funded vehicles.
The top three selling used cars of 2011 were exactly the same as those of the year before, although the Astra and the 3 Series jumped from second and third place respectively in 2010 to first and second place on the list for last year. There are even strong similarities with the results from five years earlier in 2006, where the Ford Focus was the bestselling vehicle, with the Vauxhall Astra again in second place, while third place was taken by the Land Rover Freelander.
The premium German brands make a good showing in the overall top 20, with the Audi A3 and A4, the Volkswagen Golf, and the BMW 1 Series and the 3 Series all scoring highly.
"It is clear to see the 'family favourites' are still extremely popular" says the Managing Director of Creditplus, Shaun Armstrong. "Many consumers don't even look past Ford and Vauxhall before making a choice about their next vehicle. This is hardly surprising though as these cars have proved to be highly reliable over the last 10 years."
