Best Medium new and Used Cars

Best Medium new and Used Cars Image

The Which? car survey is the largest in the whole of the United Kingdom, with as many as 52,563 taking part last year in order to rank the most reliable medium vehicles, for both new and used cars.  A medium car is usually a three or five-door hatchback that is around the same size as the Ford Focus.

The Ford Focus is interesting as, despite the fact that it is the bestselling vehicle in its class, it fails to make the list as one of the most reliable, with German and Japanese brands occupying those positions.

The number one most reliable new or used medium car in 2011 was the Mazda 3, according to the results of the survey.  While never a real mainstream player in the United Kingdom, it has always been deservedly very popular with members of Which? and achieved a reliability score of no less than 93%, putting it at the very top of the class for vehicles that were less than three years old.

Second place went to the Mercedes A-Class which, despite its immediate predecessor's notoriety for build quality problems (including a tendency to roll over when taking on corners at high speeds) has remained impeccably reliable since its release in 2005, achieving a reliability score of 91%.  Third place went to the Renault Megane, with the medium-sized vehicle being a rare example of a Renault feted for reliability and achieving a reliability score of 91%.
