The most potent V6 turbodiesel engine that has ever been included in many Audi cars for sale has been placed into both the A6 saloon and the Avant estate models together with the A7 Sportback. The brand new 313PS 3.0-litre bi-turbo unit, which includes an actuator in the exhaust system in order to generate a rorty sports car sound, will also become available in A6 all-road vehicles later in 2012.
Fitting in above the 245PS and single-turbo 204PS versions of the 3.0 TDI, which are already a feature in the A6 and the A7 Sportback ranges, the newest V6 comes with a two-stage turbocharger that assists the A6 3.0 BiTDI quattro saloon to glide to 62 miles per hour in as little as just 5.1 seconds.
The sprint for the A6 Avant and the A7 Sportback is only a fraction slower at 5.3 seconds as well, with all the models coming with an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour. A6 models are to be priced from £43,810, with the A7 Sportback starting from £51,645 when the vehicles hit the road sometime this coming spring.
As with existing TDI engines, technologies such as stop-start and recuperation systems are backing up the new BiTDI, as well as the thermal management set-up that quickly brings the oil and coolant to their operating temperatures: the upshot of which is that the combined fuel economy in both A6 and A7 Sportback vehicles is the same, at 44.1 miles per gallon.
