The BMW X3 had a tough start to life after being introduced in 2004 shortly after the success of the X5. The BMW X3 entered the world with an unfair handicap in comparison to the mighty X5. That´s all about to change as BMW prepare to introduce the second generation X3. It has the same evolutionary looks, but with growth in all directions including new interior, gadgets and space, the X3 is a brand new car altogether.
The latest X3 carries the same unique look as we all know, but BMW have applied the same approach as taken on the X3´s sedan brethrens the 5 series and 7 series in the sense that it´s become a much larger car. Taller by 12mm, 83mm longer, 28mm wider and an improved ground clearance of 11mm, it´s a much more dominating presence on the road but still continues to stay true to it´s roots as a soft road vehicle.
A dramatic re kit of interior has been taken into effect as well. Where its predecessor´s very dull and bleak features creates a depressing atmosphere, the second generation´s plush combination of fine grain leather and wood accents a very clean and uncluttered design creating a delightful, uplifting driving experience.
The X3 also arrives with an 8.8 inch screen linked to I drive, navigational system, electric power steering performance control, dynamic driving control, head up display, damper control, internet access and luggage capacity between 500-1600 liters. What ever the use, a casual cruise down the highway, general shopping trip or a weekend away with the family the second generation X3 proves to be much more fitting role than it´s elder brother.
There are 2 different engine options available too. The X3 "x drive 20d" carries a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter diesel engine with 181 bhp 4,000 rpm and 38 rm of torque.
The X3 35i featuring a straight 630 gasoline engine with BMW twin power turbo creates 306 hp at 5,800 rpm and 400 nm of torque.
BMW have yet to specify what transmission options are available but it is confirmed that there is an 8 speed automatic for the X3, it´s not known for which model but it´s expected in the X3 35i.
The X3 is scheduled to go on sale at the end of 2010, and has a world premiere at the Paris motor show in October 2010.
