The 2010 Geneva International Motor show is nearly upon us and there is already a lot of buzz surrounding the 80th edition of this famous event. With all of the major motor manufacturers confirming their participation at the event attention has now turned to what will be revealed at the show renowned for showcasing the future for the motor industry.
It is good to see that all of the major manufacturers are attending the event after some have decided to cut back on motor shows due to the current financial issues surrounding the industry. The Geneva show, which will run from the 4th to the 14 of March, is different though as the manufacturers know all of their rivals and the worlds press will all be waiting to see what´s new.
The show is going to have its biggest ever selection of green cars with the 16 premiers for electrical or alternatively powered vehicles. It is clear the shift in consumer awareness for ´Green´ cars has prompted manufacturers to design for the future. The show will even have a Green Pavilion where these exhibitions will take place.
The event attracts thousands of media representatives every year and this year there is expected to be around 10,000 making the trip to Geneva. Their main focus will be on the 65 press conferences that will take place.
Mr. Rolf Studer, Director General stated about the event that "250 exhibitors from 30 countries representing 700 marques will be there. They will completely cover the 78,000 square metres of exhibition space available and there are still requests for more space." In light of the particular attractiveness of this edition, the organisers are expecting between 650,000 and 700,000 visitors during the eleven days that the Show will be open to the public.
Many of the cars that are going to be revealed at the show have already had sneak previews before the event. These include the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Audi A1, the Mini Countryman, the new Opel Meriva, the Porsche Cayenne, the Renault Wind, and the new generations of Sharan and Touareg from VW.
For the sport car and supercar enthusiasts the event will also show off the Lexus LFA, Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S Awards Edition, Audi RS5, Porsche Cayenne, Porsche 911 Turbo, Turbo S, Nissan 370Z Black Edition and the Jaguar XKR Special Edition.
