Government Reduces Police Car Variety

The government spending review will see a cut in the number and variety of police cars. As soon as this course of action is taken into effect, Britain´s patrol units will only be able to purchase their vehicles from 4 manufacturers; Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot or Hyundai. The government feels that too much money is being spent per annum on Police cars and feel by enforcing this new scheme, a significant amount will be saved.

To be more specific, recent statistics have informed us that the amount spent per year on police vehicles comes close to nearly £84 million. If the new instructions are followed then the amount saved across the force is likely to be around £1.35 million over the four year period.

Although the governments concern about the financial outflow generated by police car shopping justifies this action, they aren´t prepared to see crime levels increase due to inefficient work tools. This is why they say they´ve analyzed all aspects of car use across the UK´s forces and have made arrangements to keep budgets at an all time low, as well as keeping decent levels of practicality. Motorway patrols and specialist teams which require faster vehicles will be able to select from one of Audi´s, BMW´s or Volvo´s high powered motors, and armored limousines to be used for escorting duties will be sourced by Jaguar.

The Government is also planning on organizing a new national livery, as many of the UK constabularies are using their own stripes and branding. They feel by taking this into action they feel that more money will be saved and a tighter policing unit will be achieved.
