Aston Martin has revealed to the auto industry that their Cygnet luxury car is scheduled for production in the early months of 2011 at Aston´s headquarters in Warwickshire.
Although the vehicles cost and full specification details still remain a mystery, the company has confirmed that the details will be released before the end of the year.
The Cygnet is Aston Martin´s first city car which is based on the Toyota IQ. The small hatch back has been created to meet the new low emission standards which each car manufacturer has to meet. This means the Cygnet will be produced to offset the omissions of popular models such as the Vantage or DBS.
It´s been rumored that the car will be powered by a Toyota 1.33 liter engine with a manual gearbox, but is promised to hold a new level of comfort and luxury, and will feature an embellished sporty grill and Aston Martin branding on the wheels and interior, offering individuality and class into the green car world.
Dr Ulrich Bez (Aston Martin CEO) stated, "Whatever we do, we do right. Our customers need a small car for urban and city use and they want the right tools for the right job, to downsize creatively without compromising intelligence, artistry and personality."
Car fans may argue that it would make more sense for Aston Martin to construct a hybrid or possibly an electric car if their goal was to deliver the ultimate green, urban driving machine. However the chosen approach should prove to be cheaper and quicker to manufacture and the company promises a unique approach on near enough every feature on the car. Aston Martin also expects to sell 4000 Cygnets a year, despite its intended selling price of £30,000.
