The company, which built a 33 mpg plug-in Hummer that was paraded around Washington D.C. last year, is working with Hyundai Heavy Industries on developing extended-range plug-in hybrid fleet vehicles and a solar-powered generator to charge them as part of what the two companies say could lead to production of electric-drive commercial trucks.
Under the memorandum of understanding announced today, Raser and Hyundai over the next few months will build three demonstration vehicles as well as a five-megawatt solar-power generator, using Hyundai solar panels, at Raser's Thermo plant in southern Utah.
