NHTSA is getting complaints about 3rd generation Prius' braking performance.

Alas, Toyota, thy name may soon be mud.


This isn't to say that the bad news is based on fallacy, or undeserved - in a past life while reporting on oil coagulation problems that were destroying Toyota engines we experienced the company's reluctance to acknowledge fault.


But it is still interesting to watch how those of us who have fawned over the brand's reputation for quality and reliability - and we're on that list - now will hurry to pile on as word spreads about Toyota defects, possible defects, cover ups and rumors of cover ups.


Latest to hit - after gummy oil, sudden acceleration and rusty Tundras, is news that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - NHTSA - has received dozens of complaints from 2010 Prius owners of a brake system issue that involves what appears to be a momentary loss of braking power - or at least the perception thereof - mostly when hitting bumps or potholes while applying the brakes.
