Is Porsche pondering a hybrid 911, or even a battery-electric model of its famed sports car?
A spy shooter for NextAutos.com caught a black 911 convertible sporting a mysterious -- and obviously jury-rigged -- hood bulge emblazoned with the universal sign for high voltage -- a black lightening bolt in a bright yellow triangle.
If that wasn't enough to rouse suspicion, the photographer reports that the car first caught his attention because it was making virtually no noise when he saw it leaving a parking space (he doesn't say where, but the photos look as it they were shot in Death Valley, a popular place for hot weather testing in the summer).
Then, when the Porsche driver saw his camera, the shooter reports, he floored it and disappeared at high speed. The report doesn't indicate whether there was engine noise at that point or if the escape was as quiet as the entry.
We know, though, that Porsche is interested: It already has hybrid models of the Cayenne and Panamera in the works and, as we've reported, has had at least one prototype electric 911 run up for it by outside vendors.
