Filmmaker Paine Builds Website Around New Movie, 'Revenge of the Electric Car'

With just about every serious automaker on the planet racing to hit the market with some sort of electric vehicle (all-battery, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell) by 2010 or thereabouts, it was just a mater of time before filmmaker Chris Paine did something to follow his 2006 film, Who Killed the Electric Car?

Actually Paine's been working on a new film for some time now, energized by the groundswell of support for gas-less vehicles from the never-say-die fans of the original crop of EVs in the late 1990s.

It was that crowd that pressed and pressured and promoted until the chief villain of Payne's original flick, General Motors Corp., saw the light and announced it would do an extended-range, plug-in series hybrid EV called the Chevrolet Volt.

Paine's been filming bits and pieces for his new film, Revenge of the Electric Car, for months now. It isn't likely to debut until sometime in 2010, though, given that he says it "tells the story of the EV renaissance, circa 2008-2010."

Autoblog Green brought our attention to Paine's new website called (a no-brainer here) Revenge of the Electric Car.  In a FAQ section about the upcoming movie, the director says the film won't a sequel and will be "very different" in "tone, approach and content" from Who Killed.

Revenge, the website, doesn't have a lot of meat yet, but you can read a bit about the new film, the production crew, and Paine's speaking and other public appearances. There's also an EV news-related blog and, as time goes by, a chance to follow Paine and the crew on their rounds as they collect more material for the film.
