The European Commission announced today that it plans to introduce by next year a set of standards for charging electric vehicles.
With several car companies planning high-profile launches for electric car models over the next two years, the European Union's executive body apparently aims to make sure that the vehicles and their chargers will work across the continent.
"The standardized charging interface should ensure interoperability and connectivity between the electricity supply point and the charger of electric vehicle," the commission said in an outline of its green strategy.
The commission also plans to propose new emissions standards for motorcycles this year.
