The action wasn't all inside the stores at one Los Angeles area shopping mall this morning, as more than a few of the holiday shoppers took a break to check out a preproduction prototype Chevy Volt.


General Motors put the car on display to promote its appearance next week at the Los Angeles International Auto Show and, we imagine, to collect consumer opinion and generate interest.


The Volt, an extended range plug-in hybrid, is slated to go into production late next year, with sales to start at the end of the year or the beginning of 2011.


For those of you in the LA area and interested, the Volt's on display at the Westfield Century City mall.
