Filed under: Etc.Up until now, anyone with an iPhone or Blackberry and a vehicle with a Viper alarm system could control a range of features from their SmartStart-equipped smartphone. Now Viper is extending that functionality to Google-powered devices through its free app in the Android Marketplace.
Vehicles equipped with the SmartStart hardware can start their engines remotely, pre-warm or pre-cool the insides and, depending on the implementation, lock and unlock doors, pop the trunk and arm their vehicle through their phones. If a baddy cracks the window, an alert is sent to the smartphone and if you've got more than one vehicle equipped with the hardware/software combo, you can keep tabs on all your rides through the system.
Full details in the cheese-laden video and accompanying press release after the jump.
