The initial shipment of all-electric i-MiEVs from Mitsubishi just arrived in Australia, part of the first mass-produced electric vehicles (EVs) to make it Down Under. OK, "shipment" is perhaps too strong a word, since the delivery was only two vehicles, but it's a preview of what will be available for sale in the country in "the next few months." Pricing and possible government incentives will be announced later, but government and company officials were on hand to hype up the potential for EVs in Australia. It was also a homecoming of sorts, since Mitsubishi has signed a deal with Lithium Australia to supply some lithium for the i-MiEV's batteries.

By 2013, Mitsubishi hopes to be making around 30,000 i-MiEVs a year for the global market. Later this year, the Tesla Roadster will also be available in Australia.
