It was back in 2007 at the New York International Auto Show that GM’s Chevrolet division unveiled its Beat concept car. Based on the General’s Gamma II platform, the show car was built to show the design direction of the next-generation Korean-built Daewoo Matiz city car.
Fast forward two years to the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Amongst the “16 new and upcoming cars and crossovers,” Chevrolet announced that it would “produce and bring to the U.S. the highly fuel-efficient Spark four-door mini car and seven-seat Orlando multi-purpose vehicle.”
