BMW set the best performances in the first free practice sessions on Friday for the second round of the DTM season presented at the Lausitzring.
DTM's reigning champion Martin Tomczyk set the best time, only 17 thousands of a second ahead of his teammate, American Joey Hand.
Mattias Ekstrom (Audi) who set pole position for the opening round in Hockenheim last weekend, was third ahead of Christian Vietoris, who was the best Mercedes driver.
Canadian driver Robert Wickens was 11th in his C-Class Mercedes Coupé, while Bruno Spengler, from Quebec put his BMW M3 in 19th position.
